Professional Business Coaches, Inc., a California corporation, coaches and mentors lawyers for "career satisfaction" - - which we define as helping lawyers derive more fulfillment and greater satisfaction in their law practice and/or legal career.
Jerome M. ("Jerry") Bame, its President and Senior Coach, actively practiced law in California from 1961 through 2000 (39 years), initially as a litigator, and then as a business transactional lawyer.
In 2000, he concluded his law practice to start a new career as an Executive Coach - - to coach Presidents, CEO’s, and other senior-level executives of companies.
Shortly thereafter, he was approached by several former law colleagues who asked him to coach and mentor them in their law practices. Throughout his legal career, he had coached and mentored other lawyers - - with “career satisfaction” being the focus of his attention. He had also served on his local Bar Association’s Client Relations Committee - - the committee that investigates complaints against lawyers. As a means of “giving back” to a profession that had been good to him for 39 years, he seriously started accepting lawyers – particularly, “unhappy lawyers,” as coaching clients.
This blog is an extension of his desire to "give back" to his legal profession and, in particular, to help lawyers within the profession who, for various reasons…
- have lost their passion for the practice; and/or,
- no longer feel satisfied and fulfilled in their legal career; and/or
- have become all-consumed with work, and feel as though they have “lost control” of their lives; and/or,
- question why they ever went to Law School; and/or
- are not sure they want to continue practicing law or working in a legal career for the rest of their working life;
- etc.
- etc.
It is NOT Mr. Bame’s intention, in his coaching and mentoring of lawyers, to help encourage lawyers to change positions, change firms, or change their career - - although, in some cases, that may be warranted. Rather, it is the focus of his coaching to help lawyers ascertain what is not working, then examine what is not working, and make some adjustments or corrections in their practice, work or lifestyle - - so that the lawyer, if at all possible, remains where they are, only working smarter, better and more productively. But, most importantly, so that the lawyer becomes a happy, fulfilled and satisfied lawyer and individual.
